Family portraits suck. (*There’s even a book about it). Moms know this. Kids know this. Relatives who receive miniature copies to display in their homes know this. And yet, every couple of years we willingly inflict the trauma of matching denim rompers and cream-colored turtlenecks upon ourselves, all in the name of family pride.
It doesn’t have to be this way.
Making everyone wear velvet and sit around the fireplace by threat of violence does not produce a good portrait; it produces incriminating photos of a hostage situation. So this year, have some fun with the family photo by allowing everyone to play artistic director.
Start with each family member’s favorite picture of themselves and then let them customize with color, backgrounds, and styles. No matter how different the photos are (one from prom night, another from vacation at the Grand Canyon), you can still artfully blend them together by allowing AllPopArt to stylize, print, and mount each portrait on the same size canvas.
Group the portraits together along the staircase or down the hall and you’ll not only get to show off your family, you’ll get to show off their personalities, too — which is what you love most about them anyway.
